The tiny spider species, currently unnamed, was discovered in the area surrounding the Tambopata Research Center in Peru. At only 5mm in length, the artistic spider creates far larger decoys from bits of leaves and dead insects. It then hides near enough to shake the strands of the web when predators draw near, giving off the illusion the large spider is alive.

To date, this is the only known species of animal to create larger decoys of itself as a survival mechanism.
